Forbes list of China’s Successful People

Friday, October 30th, 2009
Chris asked:

This year, when it came to the Forbes magazine list of China’s most successful celebs, I guess the dauntless scored higher than the entertainers.

Olympians dominated the top of this year’s ranking due to recent success of the Beijing Olympics in the world’s most populous nation.

The annual China celebrity list considers parameters like earnings and media appeal to decide the nation’s most accomplished stars. Here’s a list of our tremendous ten:

1. Basketballer Yao Ming, superstar centre for the NBA Houston Rockets, is the man on top for the sixth year now! Being the flag bearer in the Beijing Olympics, his exemplary Olympic performance augmented by some great propitious endorsement deals with Visa and McDonald’s make him the numer uno with the highest ‘exposure index”.

2. The only non-Olympian to make it to the coveted top five, Actress Zhang Ziyi has been given high acclaim for her acting skills in the movie, “Forever Enthralled”. Her recent romantic ties with with Israeli media mogul Vivi Nevo has had the paparazzi going berserk and getting her to the second spot!

3. Yi Jianlian , Yao’s Olympic teammate, came third, playing for the NBA New Jersey Nets and appearing in ads like McDonalds and Nike, thus upping up his popularity.

4. Our winning Olympic lady in gild, Guo Jingjing, launched her way up with her high- profile with the grandson of late Hong Kong tycoon Henry Fok and having appeared in ads like Coca – Cola , McDonald’s and Avon augmented her star status.

5. Stars aren’t stars if they don’t have the ability to shock you. Well, this holds good for our former world recorder Liu Xiang who shockingly withdrew from the Olympic preliminary race due to leg injury. He’s been in the news for traveling to the U.S for his surgery. He has retained his endorsements with Nike and Coca- Cola still.

6. The glamour world of acting had to get Beijing-born actor Jet Li to the sixth position. Known for his exceptional performance in ‘Hero’ and ‘The Warlords’, he has been in the news more so for being the philanthropist. His One Foundation has been a powerful force to reckon with disaster relief.

7. Zhao Wei, who also goes by the name Vicki Zhao ,became the cynosure of all eyes with his acting in the epic ‘Red Cliff’ set in the 2nd and 3rd centuries directed by Hong Kong-American John Woo. This film is also being nominated in the best film category in the 27th Annual Hong Kong Film Awards Ceremony.

8. Fan Bingbing earned her publicity from a martial arts movie, ’Flash Point’ and a light hearted romantic comedy, ‘ Tao Hua Yun’. She has also been the face of Olay.

9. Endorsements of Motorola and Olay products have kept Zhou Xun pretty much in limelight. Apart from that, appearance in the film ‘Wa Pei’ got this internationally acclaimed Chinese actress and singer into the forefront.

10. Actress and singer Li Bingbing got into the Forbes tremendous ten with her acting caliber in ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’ where she acts alongwith Jackie Chan. The Harbin native graduated from the Shanghai Drama Institute. She features in the Olay ads as well

Proving You Have a Heart is Just a Cause Away!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009
Amruta Bhadkamkar asked:

Does your company sell products that make your customers giddy? Does it offer services that none of your competitors can best? Are your products always trendy and on the cutting edge of technology? Well, good for you – but your customers don’t care. Great products and service might work for a single sale, but if you want a long-lasting relationship with your customers, your company needs something more than just a corporate identity. It has to have a heart.

In today’s socially-conscious world, consumers have more respect for and are more inclined to buy from a company that proves that it is conscious of its social responsibilities and is taking steps to fulfill them. According to an Edelman Goodpurpose study conducted in 2008, 71 percent of consumers globally said despite the recession they have given just as much, or more, time and money to causes they deem worthy. More than half of the 6,000 consumers surveyed said even in the midst of a recession they would be prepared to pay more for a brand if it supported a good cause and more than two-thirds said they would be willing to pay more for eco-friendly products. This shows that success will continue to elude you unless you show that you care about the world in which we live. Surprisingly, this is not as difficult as it may sound. Enter Cause-Related Marketing.

Cause-Related Marketing (CRM) is defined as the public association of a for-profit company with a nonprofit organization, intended to promote the company’s product or service and to raise money for the nonprofit. CRM is generally considered to be distinct from corporate philanthropy because the corporate dollars involved in CRM are not outright gifts to a nonprofit organization, hence not tax-deductible.

For example, General Mills launched the “Box Tops for Education” campaign in 1996. Each box top is worth 10 cents and people are encouraged to cut them out and send them in. After the collected Box Tops are sent in to General Mills, each school enrolled in this program receives a check for an amount not exceeding $60,000 per year to spend on anything they choose. Thousands of schools have used the money from Box Tops for Education to purchase items such as computers and computer software, library books, art supplies, and playground equipment. To date, this campaign has helped schools earn more than $250 million over the past 12 years.

It does not matter what cause your business supports. It can be anything from homeless animals to AIDS but it is absolutely necessary that people know about your cause. According to the aforementioned study, even marketers who are deeply entrenched in cause marketing are not doing enough to let consumers know about it. Only 40 percent of global consumers said they are aware of any company that actively supports a good cause, while only 33 percent said they are aware of a brand that actively supports a good cause, down from 39 percent in 2007. So just supporting a cause is not enough. CRM is entirely quid pro quo. Therefore, if you want to benefit from the partnership, you have to ensure that it is publicized as extensively as possible.

So, you have decided that CRM makes perfect sense for your business and you want to go ahead with it but you don’t know what cause to support. What do you do? Well, there aren’t any hard-and-fast rules for choosing a cause but there are some tips that might help you.

• Choose a cause that you and your employees believe in. Cause marketing works best when you do it from your heart and choosing a cause that really matters to you will make all the difference.

• Choose a cause that is related to your business. This way it is easier for consumers to associate your business with the cause and it will also help reinforce your brand. For example, Procter & Gamble’s Olay brand and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery joined hands for a nationwide free skin cancer screening. Besides spreading awareness, their goal was also to help women take preventive measures to avoid skin cancer. This partnership was supported by “Desperate Housewives” star Marcia Cross and as a result, they received immense PR that attracted 9,000 women to the program.

• Iron out all the wrinkles. Give-and-take is the foundation of CRM. Therefore, a fixed decision on how the non-profit can help increase the visibility and brand awareness of your business and vice versashould be made before you go public. Negotiate and decide on joint promotions, publicity campaigns, give-aways, sponsored events and any other way of getting the most out of this partnership.

• Prepare a marketing campaign with a persuasive call-to-action. The ultimate success of your partnership lies with the consumers. Therefore, your campaign should involve the consumers and persuade them to take some action. An excellent example is the affiliation of Lay’s and the Make-a-Wish foundation. They launched a program called “Share the Joy” asking people to share their special moments on Lays.com. For every moment of joy, Lays donated $1 to the foundation. Additionally, during the promotion period, Lay’s came out with specially-marked bags of chips. For      every purchase, Lay’s donated $0.25 to the foundation.

Cause marketing is akin to killing two birds with one stone. Not only will your business receive tremendous publicity, you will also be helping a lot of organizations and people that need all the financial support and awareness that they can get. It is a complete win-win situation and an opportunity that you should not miss.

Adult Acne | Treating Adult Acne | Anti Aging Moisturizers

Monday, October 26th, 2009
Alien asked:

Softening the skin and relieving wrinkles with anti aging moisturizers is becoming a welcome and effective method of treating acne. To date there is a large and growing number of people, especially adult women, who have benefited from new techniques that not only reduce acne but also improve aging skin.

There is connection between anti aging and acne. In the 1970s two Dermatologists, Dr. Eugene Van Scott, and Dr. Albert Klingman begin investigating vitamin A as an alternative to benzoyl peroxide for the treatment of acne. Benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in most over-the-counter acne remedies. such as Proactiv, Clearasil and others. Dr Klingman eventually developed Retin A, a derivative of vitamin A, and Dr. Van Scott began working with the structurally similar Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Neither of these researchers attracted much attention until it was noted that women using these substances for acne were experiencing a reduction in skin wrinkling. Retin A and AHAs quickly became most widely used anti aging skin care ingredients worldwide.

Acne and Wrinkling share the same problematic skin condition: excessive undetached dead skin tissue building up on the skins surface. This stiffens the skin. Wrinkles result because a less flexible outer layer of skin creases the underlying growing tissue. The skin thus increasingly grows into deeper and more pronounced lines. Acne results when this dead skin tissue clogs pores and inhibits the normal passage of oils and moisture, causing whiteheads or blackheads and eventually pimples. Both AHAs and Benzoyl peroxide, however, can relieve this condition by exfoliating this dry outermost layer of the skin.

The problem is that benzoyl peroxide, while it is effective in removing oil, dries out the skin thus increasing the amount of dead skin tissue on the surface of the skin. This in turn clogs pores. For most women however, using moisturizers to relieve this dryness is not an option. The oils and waxes used in moisturizers aggravate acne because they compound pore blockage.

Several companies have worked to solve this problem and have developed moisturizers for acne prone skin. Murad and Olay have developed a number of products. At Niora, we have worked to solve this problem by creating moisturizers formulated with specially emulsified jojoba oil. Jojoba oil, while intensely moisturizing, is a fine oil with a far smaller molecular weight than sebum, or skin oil. Jojoba penetrates these heavier skin oils, unclogging pores and dissolving nascent blackheads and whiteheads. Because of Nioras emulsification process, dissolved sebum and excess oils rinse free leaving the skin soft and clean.

These lighter moisturizers can be blended with alpha hydroxy acids, which in turn exfoliate the skin and work to prevent excessive tissues from building, back up in the pores. Typically these types of exfoliating cleansers must be used daily to be effective, but they replace normal moisturizers and cleansers and fit easily into most skin care regimes.

These new skin care products thus offer the best of both worlds: an effective acne treatment that moisturizes the skin and reduces wrinkling. To date thousands of women have successfully used these new products demonstrating that the best acne treatment might well be anti aging skin care.

3 Tests For Hype-Worthy Skin Care Product

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Ranae Pritchard asked:

Are your skin care products hype-worthy? Here are three simple tests you can apply to see if your daily ritual is truly wonderful or incredibly worthless.

The current crop of popular skin care products that are available simply don’t live up to the marketing hype that the cosmetics companies give them. What they advertise as being the best skin care products don’t contain the types of ingredients that you need to have in order to make a dramatic change in your appearance.

Ever been ****** into a celebrity-studded commercial? Ever been fooled into thinking that just maybe these celebrities actually use the same stuff you do? That perhaps it isn’t the big-fat check that has them promoting Olay, but a deeper commitment to “help me find the best skin care products”.

Fantasies are nice…but here in the real world that’s called effective marketing. These companies give you the feeling that they are truly concerned about the state of your skin, and want to do everything that they can in order to help.

Enter reality.

Certainly these skin care products contain one or two ingredients that are very good for your skin, and that could possibly be of great benefit to you. That is if they weren’t submersed in a wealth of chemical agents that have already been proven to cause long-term physical harm.

I guess discussing the harmful effects of dioxane, mineral oils, and parabens doesn’t classify as “effective marketing”. Why include these ingredients at all? Because they are C-H-E-A-P, cheap. (And they’ve got celebrities to pay!)

If the label read, for example…1,4-dioxane, a synthetic derivative of coconut identified by the State of California to cause cancer.. Would you buy it? I doubt it. You’d put it nicely back on the shelf.

So, in the midst of goobly-gook labels that give you headaches to read, how do you know which products are truly the best skin care products FOR YOUR SKIN?

First, skin care products should never contain harmful ingredients. The formulas should be ecologically-based, meaning all their ingredients should be derived from all-natural substances like plants, algae, or in the case of the much-acclaimed CynergyTK, from wool extracts.

Second, they should contain high levels of these acclaimed natural substances. Higher amounts will give your skin better benefits.

Third, the best skin care products will contain a keratin protein mixture, which are known collectively as Functional Keratin. These proteins are responsible for the formation of new cells within the skin that dramatically increase the production of a person’s collagen and elastin. This kind of healthy ingredient is what belongs in a skin care cream. It is ESSENTIAL for smooth skin.

Do your skin care products pass these hype-worthy tests?

In my experience, you won’t find the big companies investing their dollars into these natural ingredients and formulations (it’s so much easier to call a Hollywood agent!). So, if you want to feed your skin the healthy “food” it so-desperately craves, look for the smaller companies to pull through for you.

You can read about my journey to discover these companies, and more about the ingredient “no-no’s” and “gotta have it’s” at my website hyperlinked below.

Choosing a Face Moisturizer

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
Juliet Cohen asked:

Moisturizers help the skin retain and heal when environmental factors dry out our skin. They contain varying combinations of emollients, occlusives, and humectants to achieve their beneficial effects, and there is an overwhelming number of formulations available. Moisturizing creams are used by millions of consumers to revitalize the water level that is found naturally in their skin. As people go through life and face a number of activities, the skin’s layer of protective lipids gets worn away. Many people nowadays have become vain in nurturing and pampering himself which has made even guys out there to focus much attention in his skin care. Some of the vanity products that people uses are specialized soaps, whitening creams, make-ups for women, and ****** moisturizers among the hundreds of it. There are a hundreds of ****** moisturizers made to take good care of our face. A good ****** moisturizer will not only protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, but will also prevent premature signs of aging and keep the skin healthier.

Two of the most famous and the ****** moisturizer in the market nowadays are Dove and Olay. Both promote softer skin in just weeks of using it. Moisturizers often claim to heal all of the skin’s ailments, but often they have the opposite effect. Organic skin lipids are sometimes added to moisturizers that in the correct proportion promote healthy skin repair. Skin type plays a role in choosing a ****** moisturizer because different skin types require different levels of moisturizing. Dry skin requires more moisture than oily skin and similarly, sensitive skin also requires special attention. A good ****** moisturizer will not only protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, but will also prevent premature signs of aging and keep your skin healthier. If you have oily skin, avoid minerals oils, mineral waxes, and other pore-clogging ingredients. Mineral oils can clog pores because they trap perspiration, sit on top on the skin, and don’t get absorbed.

Most people don’t need moisturizer on the nose. The nose has an extremely high concentration of oil glands that usually don’t need any extra encouragement. The basic function of a ****** moisturizer is to soothe and keep water in the skin; skin moisturizer reviews indicate most products do that pretty well. For oily skin that’s prone to acne, Clean & Clear skin moisturizer contains an oil-free moisturizing formula along with salicylic acid to battle acne. Men should find moisturizers that contain a sunscreen. Men have an increased risk of skin cancer. This is most likely due to men avoiding all skin care products, including sun blocks. Sunscreens are essential for daytime wear to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. There are plenty of sunscreens on the market which hydrate the skin as well as protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun.

3 Nasty Secrets About Most Skin Care Cosmetics

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
Ranae Pritchard asked:

Have you ever wondered why it seems like the major cosmetic corporations like Olay and Clinique are constantly coming out with new skincare cosmetics? It seems like the moment you shell out $50 for their product, you see another commercial on TV talking about a NEW latest-and-greatest aging skincare product they’re “rolling out”.

Now here’s a shocker…high product turnover means poor product results. If a product was really as “awesome” as they say it is, why all the upgrades? Especially so quickly after the last “rejuvenate” was released? Here are the three secrets these companies desperately don’t want you to hear.

So here’s the first nasty secret I promised you: Their products don’t work. In order to retain their “repeat” customers, they have to continually re-invent the wheel. Adding some flower extract or tweaking some special potion to create a brand “new” product.

Here’s how a so-called “new” product roll-out happens.   They include one or two catchphrase ingredients into their skincare cosmetics like collagen and elastin, and then immerse them in a sea of chemical agents. Chemical agents, I might add, that do not belong anywhere near a product that is going to be absorbed into one’s skin.

I guess it’s time for the second nasty secret I promised: They are filling their aging skincare products with ingredients that have been scientifically proven to be toxic to humans.

In fact, several countries (and the EU itself) have already banned the use of several of these ingredients in skincare cosmetics, since many have been linked to types of cancer.   The FDA has regulated the use of several of these, but is still pending on whether to ban the ingredients outright.

But even if they didn’t have these scary ingredients, there’s STILL another problem with their products. Which brings me to nasty secret number three: Using “collagen” and “elastin” as helpful ingredients is a big, fat, LIE.

Whenever you see skincare cosmetics that tout “collagen” and “elastin” on the ingredient list, run, don’t walk, to the next aisle.

It is scientifically proven, and widely acknowledged that the molecular structure of collagen and elastin makes it impossible for those ingredients to be absorbed into your skin from the outside. The molecules are simply to large.

Skeptical? Why do celebrities and A-listers spend thousands on collagen injections if they can head to Target for a miracle collagen cream? It’s because their dermatologists and doctors know this fact. Collagen must be added, or grown, within the skin itself.

Why the aging skincare deception? Simple! Chemicals are C-H-E-A-P cheap (and they’ve got some celebrity endorsements to pay for).

If you want skincare cosmetics that are both safe and effective, then you MUST look for smaller, natural-based companies. These companies can’t afford to lose a single customer with a bad product, so they spend their money on researching and developing plant-based products that work wonders, instead of supporting Jessica Simpson’s shopping habits.

One of the leading nutraceutical (as opposed to pharmaceutical) companies in the field of skincare cosmetics is based in New Zealand (appropriate, don’t you think?). They recently shook up the industry by announcing an all-natural scientific breakthrough in feeding the collagen cells within. The result of these happily-fed collagen cells was a multiplying of collagen, a stretching of elastin, and a wrinkle-free complexion. All using natural ingredients found on this amazing earth.

Decide to make the switch to all-natural ingredients. Your body, and your skin will thank you for it. To see a list of “must have” all natural ingredients to look for, and a summary of the “run away” ingredients you should avoid, visit my website below.

Look Younger! Simple Skin Care Tips for your Face

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
Anand R asked:

Everybody wants to look younger, it doesn’t matter whether you are a man or a woman; and with the wide variety of skin care products on the market today, there is sure to be something to suit your needs. The first thing you need to do is keep your skin clean, wash your face twice a day, once in the morning and once more at night. Do not use harsh soaps, choose a mild aloe vera based soap and pat your skin dry, do not rub because rubbing can cause irritation which can lead to other skin problems. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables to maintain a healthy diet and do some exercise because exercise not only stimulates the heart but all the other parts of the body as well.

When you are going outdoors you should always protect your face with a sun block because the sun is responsible for such symptoms as wrinkles, blotchy pigmentation, dryness, texture changes and uneven skin color and makes the skin look older. You might also consider wearing sunglasses as they will protect the eyelids from aging and will cause you to squint less, which is what causes crows feet because of exposure to the sun without eye protection.

One of the simplest ways to looking younger that does not require any sort of creams or lotions is to smile, as your face tends to conform to the expression that you carry most of the time. If you are continually scowling you are most likely to develop wrinkles between the eyes, furrows that come from a frowning ****** expression and lines that seem to turn down at the corners of the mouth. You should try and have a smiling, relaxed, pleasant expression on your face so that your face can take on that happy expression so you won’t look so severe and it will definitely make you look younger.

There are many skin care products that are said to make the skin look younger such as Oil of Olay Age Defying Lotion, Retin-A and Alpha hydroxyl acids. Oil of Olay Age Defying Lotion can be bought at your local drug store or supermarkets and is one of the safest products that can be used without any side effects. Retin-A which is a rather popular age defying product is said to be very effective in the improvement of the appearance of the skin, but there are some side effects such as skin irritation and peeling and unlike Oil of Olay it cannot be bought without a medical prescription. Another favorite is Alpha hydroxyl acids, which has proven to have remarkable results in giving the skin a younger look and it does not have any side effects as the prescription products.

Pityriasis Rosea Treatment Tips

Sunday, October 11th, 2009
Juliet Cohen asked:

Pityriasis rosea is a harmless, common skin problem that causes a rash. It appears as a rash that can last from several weeks to several months. The way the rash looks may differ from person to person. It most often develops in the spring and the fall, and seems to favor adolescents and young adults. Pityriasis rosea is uncommon in those over 60 years old. It may last months longer when it occurs in this age group. A single scaling patch often appears one to twenty days before the general rash. It is an oval plaque 2-5 cm in diameter, with a scale trailing just inside the edge of the lesion. The herald patch is often mistaken as ringworm. It can also be confused with psoriasis. It is most common in females and those between the ages of 8 and 35. Symptoms only recur in 3% of the affected.

Pityriasis rosea occurs most commonly in the fall and spring. It is believed to be caused by a virus. Pityriasis rosea may have prodromal symptoms (eg, malaise, nausea, anorexia, fever, joint pain, lymph node swelling, headache) that may precede the appearance of the herald patch. About half the people who develop pityriasis rosea have signs or symptoms of an upper respiratory infection such as a stuffy nose, sore throat, cough or congestion just before the herald patch appears.

Treatment usually focuses on controlling itching. Antihistamines, taken by mouth, may be used to reduce itching. Aveeno oatmeal baths, anti-itch medicated lotions and steroid creams may be prescribed to combat the rash. Lukewarm, rather than hot, baths may be suggested.

Gentle bathing, mild lubricants or creams, or mild hydrocortisone creams may be used to soothe inflammation. Ultraviolet light treatments given under the supervision of a dermatologist may be helpful. Oral anti-inflammatory medications such as prednisone may be necessary to promote healing. For mild cases, no treatment is required as this disease is not a dangerous skin condition. Calamine lotion may help the mild itch. Sometimes, if the itch is troublesome, a mild steroid cream may help.

Avoid taking hot showers or baths. Keep the water as cool as you can tolerate. Wear cotton or silk clothing. Avoid wearing wool and acrylic fabrics next to your skin. Use as little soap as possible. Use gentle soaps, such as Basis, Cetaphil, Dove, or Oil of Olay. Avoid deodorant soaps when you have a rash.

Pityriasis Rosea Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Keep the itchy area cool and moist.

2. Avoid taking hot showers or baths. Keep the water as cool as you can tolerate.

3. Try an oatmeal bath, such as Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal bath, to help relieve itching.

4. Apply a moisturizer or calamine lotion to the skin while it is damp.

5. Wear cotton or silk clothing. Avoid wearing wool and acrylic fabrics next to your skin.

6. Use as little soap as possible. Use gentle soaps, such as Basis, and Dove.
